Lawyers set March 13 deadline for implementation of demands

They warned that if their demands are not met by this date, protests will be expanded across all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan

The High Court Bar Association has set March 13 as the final deadline for the implementation of directives on lawyers’ demands. They warned that if their demands are not met by this date, protests will be expanded across all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
A protest rally, led by the association, started from the High Court Bar Association and passed through River View Road, concluding outside the Chief Minister’s House, where lawyers staged a demonstration and chanted slogans.
Addressing the rally, High Court Bar Association President Tanveer Ahmed, along with advocates Sinan Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed, stated that lawyers have been protesting for their legitimate demands for the past four months. Despite successful negotiations with the provincial government, no concrete action has been taken, leading to growing frustration among the legal community.
The lawyers highlighted the prolonged absence of a judge in the Supreme Appellate Court, which has resulted in delays in public cases. They demanded the immediate appointment of a judge on merit to resolve the backlog of cases.
Furthermore, they accused the government of deliberately stalling the implementation of the Land Reform Act, despite prior negotiations. The lawyers warned that if their demands remain unfulfilled by March 13, they will escalate protests across Gilgit-Baltistan.
